3 Types of Love

February 28, 2006 at 10:16 pm (Devotions, Middle School Ministry)

This weekend I wrapped up our series on the big LOVE.  It was a great time to share what true love really is.  We discussed the three Hebrew words that the Song of Solomon uses.

Raya- This term defines a friendship, a companion, someone who care for another.  We discussed how this is the love that God wants for junior highers to experience.  he desire for students to create friendships and that it is ok to have  friends of the opposite gender.

Ahava- This word describes a deep connection among two people.  It is this emotion that leads to a deep commitment between two people.  This type of love comes from finding someone that you would spend the rest of your life with.  It is an emotion that you would say, “I would rather be here with this person than any other place on earth.”

Dode- This is the third type of love and means to caress or to touch.  I think you know what I mean here.  This is the physical side of love and God has specific instructions in Song of Solomon 2:7, 3:5, and 8:4 to not awaken this love until it so desires.  Not until we want it or feel like having it, but when it is appropriate between a husband and a wife.

Now many students will come up to me and ask me “How far is too far?” I really hate this question!  If you are asking this question to me or yourself then it is too far!  It is like dirty underwear.  For most of us, if you question its cleanliness then you aren’t going to wear it!  Stay away from it because the closer you get to the flame the closer you are to getting burned!  Think about it.

Another Update

February 24, 2006 at 6:19 pm (personal)

Well, here is another update for my girls.  Both of them are doing extremely well.  Katie is kicking butt and eating 39 cc’s of 24 calorie formula and out of her isolette and in a big girl crib (just like the regular nursery).  She is now 4 pounds 6 ounces and eating more and more each day.

Amber is getting over this cold and doing extremely well. Right now she is getting a bit stir crazy at home and trying to find things to do.  Thank you so much for your prayers and concern for both of my girls.

My Girls’ Update

February 22, 2006 at 2:36 am (personal)

Well, Katie is doing well.  She is now 4lbs and doing well with her feedings.  She has started to have periodic times when her heart slows down which is not good, but something every premie goes through.

Amber, on the other hand, has a cold and is pretty drained.  She is resting and is on antibiotics which will hopefully help.  Pleasae pray for her health because she is not allowed to visit Katie while she is sick.

What is love?

February 22, 2006 at 2:33 am (Devotions, Middle School Ministry)

This weekend I spoke about 1 John 4:20 which says,

“If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.”

I think so often in our world today people wear this mask called “Christianity” that changes as quickly as the fashion trends today.  If it looks cool to read a certain book or pray a certain way or worship a certain way then that becomes the mask that they wear.  For students in general the mask gets shaped by those people around us, our parents, our teachers, and, most importantly, our friends.  Our friends have such an amazing impact on our lives.  If they don’t think that following Christ and doing things that would please Him are cool then they tease us and we take the mask off or we change it to fit what they think is cool.  Why do we feel we need to change?  Why can’t they change to fit our standard of cool?  It seems so basic, but so hard to actually acheive.  The biggest reason why people don’t want to follow Christ are Christians.  People that say they follow Christ but act completely opposite of his ideals.  We, as followers of Christ, need to do something about this.  We need to stop wearing a mask and BE a Christian!

This verse is amazingly powerful.  Basically, if you say you are a Christian and don’t act like it then God calls you a LIAR.  Do you want God thinking of you that way?  Just stop and think about what you have done today.  Were you loving others today?  What would God call you?  Liar or Good and Faithful Servant?

My Girls’ Update

February 17, 2006 at 5:28 pm (personal)

Katie

She is doing really well!!!  She has continued to gain weight and is now back at her original birth weight.  She is continuing to eat regularly and digesting it great!  Her IV was taken out last night and they don’t feel like they will have to put it in again.

Amber

She is doing really well.  Each day she gets better.  She is still a little tender and gets headaches when she is upright, but they are lessening each day.  We take two trips a day to the hospital to go visit and feed Katie.  It is a great time for Amber and me to bond with Katie, especially Amber.

My wife comes home!

February 13, 2006 at 4:02 pm (personal)

Today, Amber got to come home after spending almost three weeks in the hospital.  It was really nice having her back in the house after being alone for so long.  She is still in a bit of pain, but is doing much better as each day goes by.

I got to hold her!!!

February 12, 2006 at 3:58 pm (personal)

Holding Her

Finally, after many days of waiting patiently, I got to hold my daughter for the very first time.  It was absolutely the most amazing thing I have experienced to date.  She is so small and seems so fragile (she weighs the same as a good sized bass for my fishing friends out there).  I love her so much, and yet I hardly know her.  She has been in my life for such a short amount of time, but I know her so well.  It is absolutely incredible when I think that God planned this to be this way and how much he loves us!

Day Three…

February 11, 2006 at 3:53 pm (personal)

Amber and Katie are doing better each day.  Today, Amber got to hold Katie for the very first time!  What a connection. Katie was crying as she was getting wrapped up to go visit moomy, but as soon as she was in mom’s arms she quieted down immediately!  She knew her mommy and felt safe in her arms.  Katie is now feeding on formula for premies and is taking to it very well.  The nurses say she is doing very well.

I am so excited to see her improvements and really want to bring both of them home.  Most likely, Amber will come home on Sunday and Katie will come home in a few weeks.  She came so early, we still need to finish up the nursery!  I hope you enjoy my new photo album on the web site.
